How this site is (re)made (housekeeping)
This site has been around for 15 years now. Originally it was on a shared virtual web host, which worked OK but seemed an overkill for a static site (see the original article websitesimple).
We then moved to Amazon S3 as simple static-web host and that worked OK too. Some small things were not perfect, like setting up HTTPS and CDN were not trivial. Although not the driver, the price of S3 was substantially less than what I started with previously.
We’ve now moved again, to Netlify – it is even faster and even cheaper. We have a single git repo containing two Jekyll builds and all the legacy pages as static content. Hopefully nothing got lost in the transition but if you do notice something do let me know!.
